Return to the hotel to relax before lunch and then set off to the cool blue hills of Nuwara Eliya visiting important sites on the way. Proceed to Nuwara Eliya stopping at the Katharagama Devalaya, the jungle shrine sacred to Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims; the well-preserved Kiri Vehera , built 900 years ago, the brilliant white dagaba venerated by Buddhists and the cascad¬ing waters of the 171m Diyaluma Waterfall in Koslanda.




One of the world's best nature reserves, Horton Plains, at an altitude of around 2,000 metres has species of fauna and flora not found elsewhere on the island. The country's longest rivers, the Mahaweli, the Walawe and the Kelani have their sources here. The World's End is reached by foot and the view from the 1,500 metre sheer drop is truly breath-taking and on a clear day you can see the sea.




Nuwara Eliya is famous for its abundance of flowers and Hakgala Botanical Garden is where you will enjoy walking through its landscaped beauty to smell the roses. From January to May is the season to climb Sri Pada, also called Adam's Peak, the most venerated peak with a spectacular sunrise. The Buddhists believe the foot¬print on the summit is Lord Buddha's while Christians believe it was made by Apostle St. Thomas.The holy peak is also sacred to Hindus and Muslims. If it's out of season, you will still enjoy driving past the misty peak on your way back to Colombo.
