Reach Dambulla and visit the Golden Rock Temple where King Valagambahu sought refuge. Five caves on a ledge 110 m up the easy to climb Dambulla rock contain over a hundred Buddha statues, some carved out of the rock itself. Outstanding murals cover the walls and the roof of the caves. The massive Sigiriya Rock that looms out of plains is just 19 km away where patricide King Kasyapa built his heavenly palace on top of the rock 15 centuries ago. The famous Sigiriya Frescoes adorn the walls half way up the rock and on th way you walk past the Mirror Wall with a collection of ancient graffiti in praise of the frescoes.

Reach Trincomalee in time for evening tea and City Tour, visit the famous Koneshwaram Kovil, drive past the harbour which is one of the biggest and best natural harbours in the world. Also visit the Dutch Fort and walk on the soft white sands of the beach.

After breakfast an interesting place to visit is the Pigeon Island, now a breeding ground for migratory birds, which was originally used by the British during the Second World War for target practice. Pigeon Island is also an excellent location for game snorkeling.

Leave for Colombo after breakfast and on the way visit the hot springs at Kanniyai about 8 km out of town. Although located within a 10 metre square area, the temperature in the 7 pools varies from warm to hot and the water is known to have curative powers.
