The Portuguese built the Fort and the Dutch built a grandeur church while the British built a passenger jetty and many fine mansions and castles that still stand proudly. Galie lace - much like Brussels lace- are exquisitely hand crafted by the ladies of Galle and is thriving cottage industry.
