Day 1       Sithulpawwa

Proceed to Kalutara Bodiya

Kalutara Bodhiya it believed to be one of the 32 saplings of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. A Buddhist temple Kalutara Viharaya and a modern Stupa,Kalutara Chaitya are located in close proximity to this sacred fig. One of the most venerated religious place in Sri Lanka, hundreds of Buddhists visit this religious place daily.

Kande Viharaya

Kande Viharaya is located in Aluthgama, Kaluthra district not much far away from Colombo Galle main road.. The Samadhi Buddha statue was constructed in the recent past and can be visible from a long distance. New Image House is located under this statue and depicts many Jathaka stories and incidents related to the life of Load Buddha.

Weherahena Temple

Matara weherahena purwaramaya  is situated in the village of Weherahena in the district of Matara in the southern province in Srilanka. The colossal Buddha statue is a wonderful master piece. The height of the statue is 88 cubits (39m) The highly significate of this temple is the tunnel shrine.  This colossal Buddha statue was the only statue which was built after the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa regime.

Deundara Devalaya

Devinuwara Upulwan devalaya is situated in the for south of sri lanka close to matara city. 2000 years ago this southern most point of the island was place of exceeding sanctity known as Dondra,the City of Gods. A magnificent temple to Vishnu have existed more than seventh century. There is still remain two hundred granie columns which formed part of the building . Protuges commander de attack to this place and completely destroyed and stolen jewelry gems and ivory precious arms.

Weurukannala

15 miles east of Matara is the town of Dikwella, where there is one of the most amazing Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. The Wewurukannala Vihara temple is dominated by an image of a seated Buddha. It is 160ft high, the largest statue in all of Sri Lanka and dates back to the time of King Rajadhi (1782 – 1798).

Situlpauwa

The Historical Situlpauwa temple Lounts a history of over 2200 years, according to the Mahawansa and this temple was constructed by the king kawanthissa. During this period the temple had been used for residential and meditation purposes for about 12000 Buddhist monks.The temple consists of two Separate units as identified as large sithulpauwa and small Situlpauwa.

Day 2       Kataragama

Kirinda

Kirinda centres on this Buddhist shrine piled on huge round rocks. It is dedicated to Queen Viharamahadevi. The favourite story is when raging waters threatened Ceylon, King Kelanitissa ordered his youngest daughter, then a princess, to release into a boat as a sacrifice. The waters were calmed and the princess miraculously survived. Some 2000 years later, the temple was a place of refuge during the 2004 tsunami.  

Tissamaharama Raja Maha Vihara is a Buddhist temple in Tissamaharama, Sri Lanka. The site was consecrated by Lord Buddha himself, who spent some time in meditation there with 500 arhats. According to the chronicle Mahawamsa this temple was built in the 2nd century BC as Silapassa Pirivena, by then King Kavan Tissa  of Ruhuna (Southern Sri Lanka) and in the reign of King Ilanaga (38-44 A.D.)

Kataragamam temple in Kataragama, Sri Lanka, is a temple complex dedicated to Kataragama deviyo. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Sinhala Buddhists, Hindu Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Moors and the Vedda people. It is a collection of modest shrines, of which the one dedicated to Kataragama deviyo, is the most important. For most of the past millennia, it was a jungle shrine very difficult to access; today it is accessible by an all-weather road. Almost all the shrines and the nearby Kiri Vehera are managed by Buddhists, apart from shrines dedicated toTeyvāṉai and Shiva and mosques.

Sella Kataragama

Sella Kataragama is a very important place in Kataragama. About 4 mile from Sella to Kataragama. At the long distance fast a love seen was between Skanda Kumar and Valliamma at here.One mile short tunnel of Sella Kataragma is Valli’s cave. There is a small shrine to Ganesh, which s visited by the pilgrims. There is the place tradition says walliamma met the elephant when she was escorting Kataragma to the well.Sella Kataragma has many Kovils. Those are Ganapathi Kovil, Siva Kovil, Kataragama Kovil, Valliamma Kovil, Lakshmi Kovil and Saman Devalaya.

Sankapala Raja Maha Viharaya stands majestically on a rocky mountain as ample evidence to prove that this temple has been blessed by the saintly monks who spent their time in peaceful meditation.


Day 3       Ratnapura to Colombo

Divaguhava: this was the most likely spot that could be identified as the Divaguhawa where the Lord Buddha rested on his visit to the sacred mountain, the Sri Pada. Ratnapura

This temple is considered a place of great sanctity and veneration. And this is mainly due to its sacred Bodhi – tree.

Historical records reveal that this Bodhi – tree is one of the 32 saplings that sprang from the sacred Bodhi – tree at Anuradhapura planted in the 3rd century B.C.
